855kg Cocaine Seized From Behind Concealed Panel in Container at Paramaribo, Suriname

December 27: A total of 855km of cocaine has been seized by port authorities in Paramaribo, Suriname, leading to the arrest of at least one person. The cocaine was hidden behind a concealed panel in the roof of a container destined for Zeebrugge, Belgium, and the container otherwise was filled with bananas.

Customs and authorities in Bruges have stated that they believe this and other recent incidents indicates that narcotics traffickers are increasingly turning to the port of Zeebrugge, after an increasing number of successful counter-narcotics operations at the port of Antwerp.
