Assailants Open Fire On Malaysian Customs Vessel Off Semporna Coast

December 20: A group of unidentified assailants opened fire on a Royal Malaysia Customs Department (JKDM) vessel in the waters near Mataking Island, located off the coast of Semporna along the northeastern coast of Borneo. There were no reports of injuries among the five customs officials on board. Authorities are further investigating the incident, which may have been linked to a cigarette smuggling operation.
