Attempted Theft Aboard Underway Oil Tanker in Singapore Strait

December 19, 23:00 LT (15:00 UTC): Three unauthorized persons armed with knives reportedly boarded a Panama-flagged oil tanker while she was underway in the Singapore Strait. Nothing was reported stolen following the incident.

Three unauthorized persons – one armed with a knife – reportedly boarded the Panama-flagged oil tanker BAMZI (IMO #9256468) while she was underway in the Singapore Strait en route from Nipa anchorage (Indonesia) to Qing Dao (China). Two motormen were tied up before the unauthorized persons were noticed by the chief engineer who raised the alarm, at which point the three escaped empty-handed. No injuries reported.
