Edouard Herriot Port Blocked in Lyon Amid Nationwide Protests

December 17: The blocking of the Edouard Herriot port has caused major slowdowns, especially on the Laurent Bonnevay ring road. During the morning of Tuesday December 17, about 150 demonstrators blocked the port of Edouard Herriot in Lyon to oppose the pension reform. Trucks cannot enter or leave the site. As a result of this blockage, traffic in Lyon is also completely backed up. On the Laurent Bonnevay ring road, there were still 6 km of traffic jams from the Porte de la Soie to the Porte de Saint-Fons, in the direction of Marseille, around 8:30 a.m. (BFMTV / Benjamin Rieth)

In Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (LFPG/CDG), 20% of scheduled flights have been canceled for the day, whereas other airports in the country are likely to experience flight delays and cancellations. Additionally, traffic has been severely disrupted in Toulon. Thus far, there have been no reports of clashes during the strike and related protests. (GlobalSecur)

The protests and strikes come ahead of an announced break over Christmas, after-which they are scheduled to continue.
