HMS Kent Returns Home from Strait of Hormuz in Middle East

December 16: The British Type 23 frigate HMS Kent has returned to Portsmouth following the end of a four-month deployment to the Strait of Hormuz in the Middle East. During its time in the region, HMS Kent performed patrolling duties in the Indian Ocean to support maritime security and counter-terrorism operations.

The Gulf stint was mainly focused on providing protection to merchant ships passing through the busy trade route of Strait of Hormuz. The ship was sent to meet the Royal Navy’s commitment to ensure the safe passage of shipping and free flow of trade in the region. The Duke-class ship was accompanied in the operations by other British ships, including HMS Defender, HMS Duncan, and HMS Montrose. Kent left its homeport in August to replace HMS Duncan in the Gulf mission. The UK joined the US-led international collaboration on improving maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
