19 Kidnapped Crew of MT Duke Released; 1 Died in Captivity

January 20: Nineteen of the crew kidnapped from the Marshall Islands-flagged Oil/Chemical Tanker MT DUKE (IMO #9262259) last month have been released, while one reportedly died in captivity after taking ill. An investigation is being launched to examine the cause of his death. The released crew are all reported to be healthy, and are soon returning to their families.

The crew were kidnapped on December 15 whilst underway from Luanda, Angola to Lome, Togo (approx. position 04°23’N, 002°02.3’E) at approx. 08:00 UTC.
