Tanker Crew Fend Off Attempted Armed Robbery Near Batam Island, Singapore Strait

January 20, 21:45 UTC: Indonesian tanker HORIZON MARU (IMO #9048017) was reportedly boarded by four unauthorized persons armed with bladed weapons early on Tuesday in the Kabil waters off eastern Batam Island, Indonesia in the Singapore Strait.

Crew members reportedly managed to “fight off” the unauthorized persons, capturing one of them in the process whom they later handed over to authorities. One crew member suffered injuries to the face.
