Bulker Boarded By Six Persons Armed With Knives in TSS of Singapore Strait; Disembarked Empty Handed Upon Discovery

February 09, 02:20 LT: Six unauthorized persons armed with knives were spotted in the engine room of the bulk carrier NEW SPIRIT while she was underway in the eastbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) in the Singapore Strait (approx. 5.1 NM from Nongsa Point, Indonesia).

The unauthorized persons ran onto the deck when they saw the crew. The master mustered the crew in the bridge and accounted for all of them. He reported the incident to Singapore VTIS East and requested to go to Singapore to conduct a further search. Upon arrival in Singapore, the Singapore Police Coast Guard boarded the ship to conduct further search. No unauthorized persons were found and nothing was reported stolen.
