Danish Authorities Seize Reefer Carrying Cocaine; All Crew Arrested

February 15: Danish authorities have seized the reefer vessel DUNCAN ISLAND (IMO #9059638) and discovered no less than 100kg of cocaine (unconfirmed reports of up to 310 kg). All crew have been arrested, along with at least three suspected accomplices (1 Russian and 2 Latvian nationals.)

The vessel had transited from Ecuador on January 27, calling in Helsingborg, Sweden (Feb 14), and was headed towards St Petersburg, Russia when she was intercepted by Danish authorities off Langeland, Denmark. When authorities arrived, crew were actively transferring narcotics to a small vessel.

It is unknown at this time how many crew were involved, but all are currently under investigation. The vessel could not have slowed down at night in a densely trafficked area, where the vessel had stopped to transfer the narcotics, without the involvement of some essential crew.

Authorities brought the vessel to Kalundborg.
