Iran Seizes Tanker Suspected of Oil Smuggling; All 13 Crew Detained

February 22: Iran’s coast guard seized a foreign tanker accused of smuggling oil in the Gulf of Oman on Saturday, February 22. The tanker was reportedly towed to Bandar-e-Jask Port, and all 13 crew members were detained. As of Saturday evening (local time), the ship’s flag state has not been identified. Similar incidents are possible in the Gulf of Oman over the near term.

The head of the Iranian coast guard did not provide details regarding the ownership of the vessel, its intended destination or the nationalities of the arrested crew members.
