Security Increased At Mexican Ports of Tuxpan and Isla de Lobos To Counter Illicit Trafficking

February 20: The Mexican Secretariat of the Navy has reportedly reinforced security measures at the ports of Tuxpan and Isla de Lobos after an investigation found illegal trafficking of fuel, narcotics, and endangered marine animals through these ports.

The Commander of the Gulf Naval Force reported that they had assigned more than 40 units [type unspecified; original in Spanish “elementos”] to these areas and that so far they have not discovered any further suspicious activity indicating the illicit trafficking of fuel or endangered marine species. He further stated that they would work in coordination with the Ministry of National Defense.
