USCG Seizes 700 lbs Cocaine & 650 lbs Marijuana During 70 Days in Eastern Pacific and Panama Canal; 27 Suspects Arrested

March 13: The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma returned to port in Maine on Thursday, ending a 70-day “counter-drug patrol” that resulted in the seizure of $12.5 million in cocaine, officials announced.

In addition to 700 pounds of cocaine, the crew’s 70 days at sea netted 640 pounds of marijuana and the arrests of 27 accused drug traffickers, Coast Guard officials say. The Tahoma also took part in a multi-unit bust that seized a whopping 9,600 pounds of cocaine, per the Coast Guard.

The drug busts occurred in the eastern Pacific ocean and the Panama Canal, which the Tahoma patrolled as part of Operation Martillo, officials say. The operation was conducted with the cooperation of 20 other countries, per the Coast Guard.
