HMAS Melbourne uncovers illicit drugs and weapons during raid

THE navy warship HMAS Melbourne picked up where HMAS Newcastle left off in the war against global terrorism, with a major drug and weapons bust last weekend.

The guided missile frigate was on patrol in the Arabian Gulf under Operation Manitou when she intercepted a suspect ‘fishing’ dhow.

Defence confirmed that the ship was directed to board the dhow but refused to provide further details.
