Second Indonesian hostage escapes from Abu Sayyaf kidnappers

JAKARTA: Indonesia on Thursday (Aug 18) confirmed reports that a second Indonesian hostage had escaped from Abu Sayyaf kidnappers in the Philippines.
State-run news agency Antara quoted Indonesian armed forces chief Gatot Nurmantyo as saying that he had checked the claims and that they were true.
He said the second hostage, named Ismail, had now joined the first hostage Mohammad Safyan, who had also earlier escaped, and both of them were in Zamboanga undergoing medical check-ups.
