India to work with Japan to combat piracy

CHENNAI: The Indian Coast Guard is planning to expand its cooperation with the Japan Coast Guard and coast guards of other countries as part of its efforts to hone its search and rescue skills and to strengthen joint patrolling against pirates in the Asia Pacific region.

Japan Coast Guard commandant admiral Satoshi Nakajima said, “We discussed about further collaboration at a high-level meeting in New Delhi. The Sarex-18 was well coordinated and was meaningful for international participants. This indicates how important colaboration between Japan and India is to safeguard maritime boundaries. We will continue to extend our cooperation for peace and prosperity in the Pacific region.”
