327kg and 160g of Beedi Leaves Seized off Coast of Talaimannar, Sri Lanka

March 20-22: During a further search conducted in the sea area of Talaimannar on the morning of March 21, 4 sacks containing 327kg and 160g of Beedi leaves were found by naval personnel attached to Sri Lanka’s North Central Naval Command. The seized narcotics was subsequently handed over to the Jaffna Customs for further investigation.

It is believed that the same suspects who were arrested the previous night (March 20) with 912kg and 460g of Beedi leaves might have also attempted to smuggle this consignment into the country.

Accordingly, the Navy has seized 1,239kg and 62g of Beedi leaves in total, during operations carried out March 20-22.
