Egypt Seizes 2 Tons Heroin & 99kg of Methamphetamine From European Ship Off Red Sea Coast

April 04: Egyptian security and naval forces have seized a large shipment of narcotics worth more than LE 2 billion (approximately $115 million USD) aboard a ship off the Red Sea coast, the interior ministry said in a statement Thursday.

A “dangerous” gang of seven foreigners and two Egyptians were planning to smuggle two tons of heroin and 99 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine into the country aboard a European-flagged ship.

Naval forces intercepted the ship, arresting its crew of seven foreigners, the ministry said, without specifying their nationalities.

Authorities are still hunting the two Egyptians.

The ministry described the seizure as “one of the biggest blows to drugs smugglers.”
