Indonesian Police Seize 10 Kg Crystal Meth Wrapped in Teabags at Port of Tanjung Priok, Jakarta

July 10: Jakarta Metro Police narcotics directorate foiled the smuggling attempt of 10 kg crystal meth wrapped in teabags owned by a Malaysia-Jakarta criminal network. Authorities arrested seven suspects (all Indonesian nationals) and seized the evidence at Port of Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta on Wednesday, July 10.

“The pieces of evidence were transported on KM Salvia passengers vessel,” said Jakarta Metro Police Chief of Public Relation Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono in a press conference at his office on Thursday, August 8.

Argo said the narcotics were wrapped in teabags and the suspects planned to distribute them to the South Jakarta area.

The Jakarta Metro Police Chief of narcotics unit Adj. Sr. Comr. Dony Alexander said his office was informed that one suspect, Nando, would be smuggling the narcotics.

He was reportedly flown from Malaysia to Jakarta on July 9, while two other suspects departed from Malaysia on KM Salvia boat, bringing the 10 kg methamphetamine on the same day.

The police arrested the two latter suspects on July 10 when the boat arrived at Tanjung Priok’s terminal operation 2. Meanwhile, Nando and a fourth suspect were arrested at a minimarket in Yos Sudarso, North Jakarta, not far from the port. The authorities arrested the three final suspects in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta on July 11.
