1,482 kg of Cocaine Seized In Export Cargo At Santos Port

September 10: Customs staff, through risk analysis criteria, including non-intrusive (x-ray) inspection, selected a crystal sugar shipment to the Port of Antwerp, Belgium, for investigation.

During the inspection, there was a positive indication of narcotics, increasing suspicions. Inside one container, 49 “contaminated” bags containing cocaine were found, totalling 1,482 kg.

This was the second largest cocaine seizure of the year at the Port of Santos. On March 8, 1,776 kg of cocaine was found in a cargo of lemons bound for Cartagena, Spain.

Due to the characteristics observed in today’s action, it is suspected that the criminal technique called “Rip-Off Modality” occurred, in which the drug is inserted into a lawful load without the knowledge of exporters and importers.

The drug intercepted by the IRS was handed over to the Federal Police, which will proceed with the investigation, based on information provided by Customs.
