Armed Robbery Aboard Bulk Carrier in Singapore Strait

October 19, 17:00 UTC: Duty oiler on routine rounds onboard a bulk carrier underway in the Singapore Strait (01:03.45N – 103:38.70E) was taken hostage by five persons armed with a gun and knives. The persons threatened the oiler and tied his hands. They then stole ships spares and escaped. The oiler reported the incident to the OOW who raised the alarm and notified Singapore VTIS.
