The tanker “MT Irene SL” has reportedly been released from pirate control.
According to NATO the vessel ha been freed and its last reported position at 07 April 1755UTC was 06 44N 049 24E, course 020, speed 11.5.
The vessel had become synonomous with the rise in use of “motherships” by pirates after being captured approximately 350 nautical miles South East of Muscat in the North Arabian Sea.
The vessel has a dead weight of 319,247 tonnes and is Greek flagged and owned. The vessel was on its way to Suez from Fujairah when it was originally taken.
