Monsoon Attack

Proving that they won’t let the small matter of monsoon rains and high seas bother them, Somali pirates have been trying their luck on passing merchant vessels once again.

Two skiffs, each with five pirates attacked an NYK bulker in choppy seas on Sunday.

The pirates attacked the 61,664-dwt “Sagar Ratan” (built 2010) around 60 miles off the coast of Oman as it headed towards the Gulf of Aden.

They managed to get a ladder hooked onto the vessel, however a combination of razor wire, choppy seas and an incoming naval vessel made them abandon the attack.
