Indian Navy Admiral Nirmal Verma has spoken out, claiming that the presence of pirates just 500 nautical miles from the Indian coast had kept the Indian Navy on their toes.

“We have had to engage them as their presence so close to our coastline is not acceptable to us,” Verma said. The admiral added that Indian fishermen had become the ‘eyes and ears’ of the Indian Coast Guard.
