The Security Association for the Maritime Industry (SAMI) has welcomed the UK Flag stance on armed guards, as they believe it significant that shipowners will now be able to access the necessary levels of security with UK government approval.

While only a hundred or so vessels will probably be affected  SAMI believes the standing of the UK on the global stage will likely prompt other nations to follow Mr Cameron’s lead.
