Superyacht Security Summit
EUNAVFOR Chief of Staff Confirmed for Superyacht Security Summit
On the opening panel for first session ‘The Official Line’, Captain Haslam will present his insight and opinion into how the fight against piracy is progressing. With an extensive background in security and defence and a wealth of knowledge to bring to the discussion, he will be advising on how best to maintain security surrounding superyachts, and how we can make the waters safer for owners and those in our industry.
Captain Haslam began his career as a Fighter Controller in 1990, serving on destroyers and the aircraft carrier INVINCIBLE in the Adriatic. In 1996 he qualified as a Gunnery Officer, during which he conducted the 1997 Ocean Wave deployment to the Middle and Far East. Further specialist Air Defence training led to work as an Operations Officer and as Senior Warfare Officer, operating off Sierra Leone and in the Gulf of Oman. In 2002/2003 as Executive Officer aboard HMS MARLBOROUGH, he took the ship to combat in the Northern Arabian Gulf and Australasia.
Captain Haslam’s final seagoing appointment was as Commanding Officer of HMS SUTHERLAND. From 2006 he worked for the Ministry of Defence in Equipment Capability, Navy Resources and Plans. Promoted to Captain in 2010, he joined the current operations division of PJHQ and began work on UK operations in the Middle East. His main attentions were counter piracy, contributions to EU/UN missions, overseas counter terrorism operations and the UK response to developing crises. Selected to join the UK Maritime Battle Staff as Chief of Staff in Nov 2011, we are delighted to welcome Captain Haslam to the stage in his current role, committed to the EUNAVFOR Counter Piracy operation, ATALANTA as Chief of Staff.
Joining him in on the day will be panellists from Holman Fenwick Willan, R&Q Marine Services, Hill Dickinson, Spearfish, Selex and Veritas International, with more to be confirmed. To view the programme, please click here.
