On 15 January in Djibouti EUCAP Nestor and the EU Naval Force Warship FGS Hessen conducted firefighting training with members of the Djiboutian Navy and Coastguard.

EUCAP Nestor And EU Naval Force Conduct Firefighting Training With Djiboutian Navy And Coastguard

On 15 January in the port of Djibouti EUCAP Nestor and the EU Naval Force Warship FGS Hessen conducted firefighting training with members of the Djiboutian Navy and Coastguard.

20 personnel from both the Djibouti Navy and Coastguard were given training by 2 instructors from EUCAP Nestor and a team from the German Frigate FGS Hessen. The training was delivered on board the EU NAVFOR warship whilst she was alongside the Port of Djibouti.

Firstly the Djiboutian personnel were given a tour of the ship and a briefing on the firefighting equipment onboard Hessen. Following this members of the German frigates crew demonstrated how they would fight a fire onboard and following this the Djiboutian Coastguard carried out a fire fighting exercise. The exercise went very well and the participants and instructors were very pleased with the days training.

The EU Naval Force is working closely in support of EUCAP Nestor as part of the EU’s Comprehensive Approach to the Horn of Africa, aimed at strengthening regional maritime security and capabilities.
