Analysts dismiss Al Qaeda threat

Maritime risk analysts in Dubai and London claim a threat by al-Qaeda to target energy transportation in the Middle East is unlikely, however vessel operators in the region should remain on alert.

A maritime security analyst from Dubai who asked to remain anonymous told ASC that he believed al-Qaeda was looking to make a big, “headline grabbing strike”.

However he also felt the organisation was not currently prepared to carry out a strike of such scale.
