Hostage programme says partners will not dilute action

An industry gathering has pledged that support for hostages will not be diminished.

Partnership with industry players and institutions will not dilute the ability of the Maritime Piracy Humanitarian Response Programme (MPHRP) hostage survivor programme to respond to humanitarian need, an audience at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has heard.

The MPHRP held the event entitled: “Because the industry cares” to thank MPHRP’s large and increasing number of industry partners, which includes the IMO, and to answer questions about its work and achievements to date.

MPHRP was closely involved with the release, and post-release welfare, of the crew of 1,066teu box ship Albedo, which was hijacked by pirates in November 2010, with the crew managing to escape in July this year.
