ReCAAP releases April report

ReCAAP has released its piracy and maritime crime figures for April 2015, noting that the hijacking of small coastal tankers for fuel/oil siphoning continues to be a key concern.

They report 17 incidents of piracy and maritime crime for the month of April, noting that two vessels were hijacked for their cargoes during the period while there were 14 robberies and one attempted robbery. The geographical locations of the incidents are also examined, with ReCAAP observing that many incidents occur in the eastbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme in the Singapore Straits under cover of darkness.

ReCAAP recommends that all littoral states increases their presence and surveillance to deter such acts.
