Qatar’s National Security Shield Project to Host Third Annual QMARSEC Event

The third annual QMARSEC conference will take place on 28 October 2015 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Doha, Qatar under the theme “The Future of Automatic Identification System (AIS) Technologies and Deployments.”

The annual QMARSEC conference provides a forum that encourages information sharing and cooperation among military, government, industry and academic maritime security experts from around the world.

The conference encourages the development of joint endeavors, particularly new technologies, in order to deepen and enhance inter-agency cooperation and collaboration to mitigate future security threats.

In the face of increasingly sophisticated transnational maritime threats, maintaining a technological advantage through the most advanced, high tech systems, equipment and electronic devices is more vital than ever. The attendees of QMARSEC come together in the spirit of cooperation to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes for all. This is the most efficient means of achieving an effective coordinated maritime and coastal surveillance.

Staff Brigadier (Pilot) Mohammed A. AL-Mannai, Director, Qatar National Security Shield Project said of the conference: “The most critical goal of an effective coastal and border protection system is the safety of our civilians and infrastructure. As these threats are becoming less and less predictable it is more important than ever that we work together to face our mutual challenges.”

The QMARSEC 2015 host, Qatari’s National Security Shield Project (NSS) engages in the constant monitoring of Qatar’s borders, coasts and regional waters. Its experience is invaluable to countries seeking to improve their practices and utilization of technology. The QMARSEC conference provides an opportunity for interested parties to learn from the experience of the NSS in developing an effective coordinated maritime and coastal surveillance while sharing strategies to identify vulnerabilities and recommendations for safeguards or countermeasures.

“QMARSEC 2015 promises to once more provide a platform for maritime security and defense representatives from across the globe to share knowledge and best practices,” said Matthew Cochran, Chairman of Defense Services Marketing Council. “Attendees of past conferences have received tremendous value from their participation, both in terms of knowledge and opportunities for collaboration, and we expect 2015 will be even better.”

Staff Brigadier (Pilot) Mohammed A. AL-Mannai finished by saying: “The QMARSEC 2015 conference is an indispensable opportunity for senior military and security officials from not only the MENA region, but from around the world, to get together and discuss the issues that really matter – the threats we are facing and how we can cooperate to overcome them. I commend this conference for its ambition and its execution.”
