MARAD Alert: Southern Red Sea – Threat of Vessel Attack

September 06: The US Maritime Administration (MARAD) has issued an alert, reading:

“A maritime threat has been reported in the Red Sea in the vicinity of Yemen.  The nature of the event is potential increased hostilities that threaten maritime security.  Vessels operating in this area are advised to review U.S. Maritime Advisory 2019-007 (Violence Due to Regional Conflict and Piracy – Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman, and Indian Ocean).  Vessels are advised to exercise caution when transiting this area.  Further updates will be provided when available.  This alert will automatically expire on September 13, 2019.  Any maritime industry questions regarding this alert should be directed to GMCC@uscg.mil.  For more information about U.S. Maritime Alerts and Advisories, including subscription details, please visit http://www.marad.dot.gov/MSCI.”
